Elon Musk Ordered to Court Over $1 Million Voter Payments

Elon Musk has been ordered to appear in court to respond to a lawsuit regarding $1 million payments made by his political campaign group, America PAC, to voters in key battleground states for the upcoming U.S. election.

Critics have labeled these payments as improper and potentially illegal, arguing they could influence voter turnout in favor of former President Donald Trump, whom Musk supports.

On Monday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner filed a lawsuit seeking to halt America PAC’s sweepstakes, which offers $1 million to any registered voter in battleground states who signs a petition supporting the Constitution. Krasner contends that this initiative compels participants to provide personal information in exchange for a chance to win, calling it an “unlawful lottery.”

The lawsuit states: “America PAC and Musk are lulling Philadelphia citizens to give up their personal identifying information and make a political pledge in exchange for the chance to win $1 million.”

Judge Angelo Foglietta has scheduled a hearing for Thursday at 10 a.m., mandating that all parties, including Musk, must attend. It remains uncertain whether Musk will comply, as his legal representation has not confirmed his attendance.

Musk has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s campaign since endorsing him in July, following an assassination attempt on Trump during an election rally in Pennsylvania. He has reportedly contributed over $70 million to America PAC to support Republican candidates.

As the November 5 presidential election approaches, the stakes are high, with both Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris actively campaigning in what is considered a close race.

The outcome of this lawsuit and its implications for voter mobilization efforts could significantly impact the election dynamics in critical swing states.
