#EndBadGovernance: Court Fixes September 11 For Trial, Ruling On Bail For Protesters
The Federal High Court has scheduled a trial and ruling on the bail application for the #EndBadGovernance protesters for September 11. The protesters were arraigned in Abuja on Monday and face serious charges including treason, inciting mutiny, and attempting to destabilize Nigeria.
The ten individuals charged before Justice Emeka Nwite include Michael Adaramoye, also known as Lenin, Adeyemi Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaoluwa Simon, Angel Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nuradeen Khamis, and Abdulsalam Zubairu.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has filed six counts against the defendants, who are also joined by a British citizen, Andrew Wynne (also known as Andrew Povich). The charges, detailed in the charge sheet marked FHC/ABJ/CR/454/2024, allege serious offenses including treason, efforts to destabilize the country, intimidation of the President, and destruction of property.
According to the charges, the defendants conspired between July 1 and August 4, 2024, to commit treason and other felonies, including inciting mutiny and attacking various targets such as police stations, the NCC complex in Kano, and several government buildings. These actions are alleged to be in violation of Sections 95 and 97 of the Penal Code.
The IG further accused the defendants of collaborating with Wynne to wage war against the state, incite public disturbance, and cause damage to multiple properties, including police stations and high court complexes, in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Gombe. These acts are alleged to contravene Section 410 of the Penal Code (Northern States) Federal Provisions Act CAP P3 LEN 204.
Additionally, the defendants are accused of inciting public disaffection by carrying placards with slogans like ‘End Bad Government’, which allegedly violated Section 416 of the Penal Code (Northern States) Federal Provisions Act CAP P3 LFN 204.
