Ahead of Sunday’s pivotal Premier League clash against Liverpool at the Emirates, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has voiced worries.
After being sent off in the 25th minute of Arsenal’s match against Bournemouth, which resulted in their first loss of the 2024–2025 Premier League season, defender William Saliba will not play.
Speaking after Arsenal’s narrow 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night, Arteta confirmed that one of the team’s recent signings, Riccardo Calafiori, sustained an injury during the game.
Calafiori appeared to injure his knee in the second half and was unable to continue, leading to his substitution by Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Arteta also revealed that Bukayo Saka is still not back in training.
He said: “[Bukayo] Saka is not training yet, so he won’t be available, and Ricci [Calafiori] felt something and could not stay on. Bit of a worry.”
Arsenal will also be without captain Martin Ødegaard and Jurrien Timber, both of whom are still struggling for fitness ahead of Liverpool’s visit.
Arsenal have accumulated seven points from their opening three Champions League matches.
