Fans Placate Boxer Olaore after Elimination

Following Adam Olaore’s elimination from the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Nigerian boxing fans took to social media to offer words of encouragement.

In the men’s 92 kg heavyweight division, Olaore, Nigeria’s last hope in the boxing competition, was defeated by Aibek Oralbay of Kazakhstan on Sunday, sending him out of the Games.

WBO Africa champion Seun Wahab led the support on Instagram, writing, “He did his best, and I’m proud of him; the future is bright. Head up, champ.”

Another user, @officialbensonpuncher, emphasised Olaore’s achievement, stating, “An ‘Olympian’ either you like it or not.”

Olanrewaju Arowolo praised the 22-year-old’s effort, as he recognised the challenges faced at the Olympic level.

“Not easy featuring at the Olympics. I wish you luck in future endeavours, champ. You’re a warrior, and you lost by a point better than losing at round one (knockout) on world stage,” he wrote.

Orobiyi echoed similar sentiments and highlighted the significance of Olaore’s Olympic participation, writing, “You really tried, bro. It’s not easy to even make it to the Olympic Games; it’s not an easy task.

“The world calls it the Olympics, but I call it the ‘Game of Brave Warriors’.”

Wisdom Boxing Gym offered brief encouragement, writing, “Better luck next time.”

Obinna focused on Olaore’s mental strength, saying, “Even though you lost, you remain a champion. It’s all about mindset.”

The 22-year-old boxer’s defeat ended Nigeria’s boxing campaign at the Paris Olympics, extending the country’s medal drought in the sport since the last medal at the Atlanta ‘96 Games.

Despite the disappointment, fans’ supportive messages highlight the pride and hope they continue to place in Nigerian athletes competing on the global stage.
