FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Revokes PDP National Secretariat’s Land Over Unpaid Ground Rents

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land title of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat located in Abuja.

The revocation notice, issued on March 13, 2025, highlights that the opposition party has failed to pay the annual ground rents on the property for the past 20 years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025.

The notice, signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration (FCTA), states that despite several publications in national newspapers and electronic media urging the PDP to settle its outstanding bills and ground rent, the party has continuously failed to meet its obligations.

The letter reads in part: “I have been directed to refer to the above Right of Occupancy granted to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Secretariat and inform you that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory has in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests and privileges over Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja.”

It goes on to explain that the revocation is a result of the PDP’s failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the land grant, specifically the non-payment of annual ground rents for two decades. The notice also cites the provisions of the Land Use Act, which the PDP’s actions have allegedly violated.

Furthermore, the Minister indicated that the FCTA would now take immediate possession of the party’s national secretariat until all outstanding payments are settled.

The revocation is the latest in a series of actions by the FCTA to enforce compliance with land regulations in the Federal Capital Territory, including addressing long-standing issues of unpaid ground rents.

The PDP has yet to comment on this development, and further details are expected in the coming days.
