The Federal Government has launched the 10-for-10 Campaign, aiming to convert 10,000 commercial vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) within 10 weeks. The announcement was made by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
The initiative, which began on January 16, 2025, and will run until March 31, 2025, is focused on transforming transportation in Abuja and Lagos. Observers view it as a significant step towards promoting a greener, more sustainable transportation system by addressing the issues of high fuel costs and environmental pollution.
The PCNGI highlighted that the campaign offers commercial vehicle operators the opportunity to convert their vehicles to CNG free of charge. This initiative is expected to reduce fuel costs, improve air quality, and create a more efficient and eco-friendly commuting experience for both drivers and passengers.
Additionally, the project has generated substantial employment opportunities. Over 2,000 Nigerians are currently working at the conversion centers, with more jobs anticipated as CNG usage expands.
As part of the President’s Conversion Incentive Programme, the CNG conversions are provided at no cost to commercial vehicle drivers.
