The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has ordered a quick and thorough investigation into the collapse of the Saint Academy School building in Jos, Plateau State, on Friday, July 12, 2024.
The minister described the incident as “unacceptable” and “totally unacceptable,” promising that anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law.
He noted this in a statement shared with journalists on Saturday in Abuja.
Over 40 students have been rescued from the rubble, with many still hospitalised.
The minister expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished those in the hospital a speedy recovery.
The minister stated that the ministry is dedicated to ensuring that building standards and rules are upheld throughout the nation and that building collapse is avoidable.
He emphasized the severe cautions sent to project developers currently in progress as well as the ministry’s management and oversight systems.
The minister assured everyone that the investigation would not follow the same pattern as previous ones, in which no one was charged for wrongdoing.
He promised that the full force of the law will be applied to anyone found guilty.
