The Federal Government has revived the long-dormant Greater Dutse Water Supply Project, a N59.4 billion initiative located in Sultilmawa, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The project, which had been abandoned for over 20 years, is seen as crucial for addressing the region’s persistent water shortages.
Despite its importance, the project had languished unfinished under previous administrations, leaving residents of Dutse and surrounding communities struggling with inadequate water supply. The newly reactivated project, set to provide 10 million liters of clean water daily, was officially launched on Thursday by the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Utseve.
At the flag-off ceremony, Utseve emphasized that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it would provide potable water to Dutse and its neighboring areas, improving the overall quality of life. He also revealed that the project includes a 10,000-meter concrete reservoir, housing quarters, and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
The announcement has brought hope to residents, with Umar Abubakar, a Dutse resident, calling it a long-awaited relief. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the daily lives of those in the region.
