In a significant move to improve road infrastructure, the Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Independence Bridge (Marina-bound) starting April 1 for much-needed maintenance and rehabilitation works.
This critical closure, set to last until the end of May 2025, is aimed at ensuring the long-term safety and stability of one of Lagos’ busiest transport routes.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukorede Kesha, confirmed the closure in a statement released on Monday. She noted that the closure will directly impact traffic traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku towards Marina, as well as the Eko Bridge and Onikan areas by Zone 2.
Motorists are strongly advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes to avoid significant delays and congestion during this essential repair period.
The government urges the public to cooperate fully with traffic management directives to ensure a smoother flow of vehicles on alternate routes.
In her statement, Kesha also expressed regret over the potential disruptions to daily commutes, emphasizing that these works are crucial for the continued safety and reliability of the city’s transportation infrastructure.
She thanked the public for their patience and understanding as the government works to complete the project swiftly and efficiently.
This closure is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade Lagos’ road network, aiming to provide safer and more reliable transportation for all.
The government promises to keep the public informed of any further developments and adjustments throughout the maintenance period.
