The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to reducing food commodity prices by making significant investments in agricultural production.
Idris made this statement during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, marking the start of the Ministerial Briefing Session for 2025.
He emphasized that while the government does not intend to impose price controls on food items, in line with free-market principles, its primary focus is on increasing agricultural production to boost supply and help lower prices.
He explained, “In the past, we had commodity boards that fixed prices, but in the spirit of a free market and promoting entrepreneurship, particularly in the agricultural sector, the government believes it is not necessary to control prices.”
Idris further stated that the government’s approach is centered on ensuring the abundant production of food items. He added, “When supply meets demand, the natural effect is a reduction in prices.”
