The Federal Government is set to overhaul Nigeria’s addressing system, with plans to revitalize the National Addressing Council (NAC) and establish a technical committee to support national planning, economic development, and financial inclusion.
This decision was made during a pre-meeting of the NAC at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
The statement revealed that a new NAC and technical committee would be inaugurated next year to advance the country’s agenda in planning, economic, and financial inclusion, while ensuring a robust national addressing system.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was present at the meeting, highlighted the importance of a standardized national addressing system. He emphasized that such a system is crucial for improving service delivery, enhancing urban planning, and driving economic growth.
Shettima also acknowledged the groundwork laid seven years ago when the National Addressing System initiative was first introduced but underscored the need to shift from conceptual frameworks to concrete implementation.
