FG votes N47.5bn to upgrade 50 secondary schools’ facilities

The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has announced a significant infrastructural upgrade initiative for senior secondary schools across Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary of NSSEC Iyela Ajayi disclosed that 50 selected schools nationwide will benefit from this intervention as part of the commission’s mandate.

Ajayi made the announcement during a groundbreaking ceremony held at one of the selected schools in Koton Karfe, Kogi State. She highlighted that a comprehensive NEEDS assessment had been conducted across the chosen schools, in line with the rehabilitation mandate issued by President Bola Tinubu.

“This is just the first phase of our intervention,” Dr. Ajayi stated. “Once we complete this phase, we will report to the President and the minister and proceed to the next phase. For those schools not included in this phase, I ask for their patience; we will address their needs after the first phase is completed.”

The first phase of the intervention will involve an investment of approximately N47.5 billion to upgrade the infrastructure of these 50 schools.

NSSEC, established in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, is tasked with overseeing and improving senior secondary education across the country.

The commission’s current initiative marks a significant step in enhancing educational facilities nationwide.
