The Kano State Fire Service has reported that over N132,450,000 worth of property was destroyed in various fire outbreaks across the state in November 2024. The service also confirmed three fatalities and credited the swift response of their personnel with saving four lives during the same period.
In a statement issued by Fire Service spokesman Saminu Abdullahi, the agency revealed that it responded to 43 fire emergencies, six false alarms, and five rescue operations from its 29 fire stations statewide. Despite the significant losses, the Fire Service managed to prevent the destruction of property valued at N310,600,000 through timely interventions.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of three lives in these incidents, but thanks to the efforts of our team, we were able to rescue four individuals and save property worth over N310 million,” Abdullahi said.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Hassan Muhammad, stressed the importance of public caution, particularly during the harmattan season, which is known for an increased risk of fire outbreaks. “We urge all residents to handle fire and flammable materials with extreme care during this harmattan period,” Muhammad advised. He also urged motorists to observe traffic laws and drive carefully, especially during the festive season, to avoid road accidents.
The Fire Service also called on citizens to report emergencies promptly and avoid making false alarms, which could impede their ability to respond to real crises. As the harmattan season continues, residents are encouraged to adopt fire safety measures to help prevent further tragedies.
