Locals in Birnin-Gwari town in Kaduna State have reported that terrorists fleeing from neighbouring Zamfara State surrounded the town and abducted several residents.
The incident reportedly happened on Thursday night in the Gobirawa area of Birnin-Gwari, less than 500 metres from an Air Force field base.
The chairman of the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Council, Abdullahi Ibrahim Muhammad Amir, issued a warning to residents of the area to limit their movements within the entire Birnin-Gwari Emirate.
The warning was issued after a meeting with the Emirate Council and security agencies in the area, after which all forms of movement, whether on foot, bike, or vehicle, were prohibited in the emirate starting at 8:30 p.m.
Former Managing Director of the Kaduna State Media Corporation, Zubair Abdurra’uf, who spoke to journalists on Friday, expressed his dismay that the terrorists had the audacity to enter the main town of Birnin-Gwari and carry out their evil acts.
He lamented the terrorists had taken over most of the farmlands in the central part of Birnin-Gwari, making it impossible for people to farm, while criticising the government for not addressing the issue of security in Birnin-Gwari.
Despite this, he expressed hope that the government would take action to enable the people of Birnin-Gwari to conduct their activities peacefully.
