Flood: Borno Govt Gives Update On Donations For Maiduguri Relief Fund

The Borno State government has provided an important update regarding the pledges and actual donations from various corporate entities, state governments, lawmakers, individuals, and non-governmental organizations for victims of the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri.

This catastrophic event has displaced over one million people in and around Maiduguri, which is now a central hub for humanitarian response efforts in the northeast a situation described as one of the worst floods in Africa’s most populous country.

The flooding was triggered by a dam burst following a weekend of relentless rainfall, which led to thousands of homes being engulfed by rapidly rising waters.

In a statement released by Governor Babagana Zulum’s media aide, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, the state government clarified that not all pledged amounts have been credited to the Maiduguri Relief Fund at this time. Furthermore, details regarding the fulfillment of these pledges, including donations and material support, will be shared in due course. The government is committed to providing updates daily at 7:00 PM.

– Bauchi State: N250 million

– Kebbi State: N200 million

– Adamawa State: N50 million

– Yobe State: N100 million

– Kano State: N100 million

– Gombe State: N100 million

– Taraba State: N100 million

– Katsina State: N100 million

Corporate Entities and Individuals:

– Alhaji Aliko Dangote: N2 billion (including N1 billion to the National Emergency Management Agency)

– Alhaji Aminu Dantata: N1.5 billion

– Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar: N100 million

– Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi: N50 million

– North East Development Commission: N3 billion

– Nigerian Senate: N54.5 million

– House of Representatives: N100 million

– People’s Democratic Party (PDP): N25 million

– Borno House of Assembly: N60 million

– Additional contributions from various lawmakers and individuals also include substantial amounts.

Non-Cash Donations:

The response has included significant non-cash contributions:

– North East Development Commission: 20,000 bags of 25kg rice, 20,000 cartons of macaroni, and 10,000 gallons of vegetable oil.

– Sumal Food Group: 50,000 loaves of bread and 5,000 cartons of biscuits.

– The Nasarawa State Government: 2 trucks of rice, 2 trucks of spaghetti, and 2 trucks of sugar.

– General Buba Marwa (Rtd): 10 trucks of fertilizer valued at N120 million.
