The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) has sent significant relief supplies to flood victims in the North-Eastern states of Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, and Taraba. NEDC Managing Director Mohammed Alkali confirmed that 200,000 bags of rice are being distributed as part of the aid effort.
In addition to the rice, the relief package includes 150,000 cartons of macaroni and spaghetti, and 250,000 gallons of vegetable oil. The NEDC is also providing essential non-food items such as mats, blankets, mosquito nets, and clothing for both adults and children.
This aid is part of the NEDC’s immediate response to the severe flooding that has devastated large parts of the region. Alkali emphasized that state and federal lawmakers from the affected areas will be involved in distributing the relief items to ensure equitable allocation across different constituencies.
This intervention follows Alkali’s recent visit to the flood-affected regions and forms part of the NEDC’s short-term relief plan, with additional measures expected to be announced.
