Former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant shift in his political journey. Abdullahi announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Ogidi Ward in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In the letter, Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities it provided but stated his decision to move on. He did not specify his next political plans, fueling speculation about his future in Nigerian politics.
“I wish to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Kindly accept my sincere appreciation for the support I have enjoyed from you and the entire membership of the party during my time as a member,” Abdullahi wrote in his resignation letter.
Abdullahi, a seasoned politician and journalist, was a key figure in the PDP and served as a minister during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. His tenure as Minister of Sports was marked by notable achievements, including reforms in the Nigerian sports sector.
Before joining the PDP, Abdullahi was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he served as the party’s National Publicity Secretary. His return to the APC, if it happens, would signal a political homecoming and potentially shake up the political landscape in Kwara State.
As the political season intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections, Abdullahi’s resignation adds another layer of intrigue to the unfolding drama within Nigeria’s political arena.
For now, Abdullahi remains silent on his next political move, leaving room for speculation about whether he will rejoin the APC or chart a new course entirely.
