Four Suspected Kidnappers Neutralised in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has reported the neutralization of four suspected kidnappers during an attempted kidnapping on the Long Bridge along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, with other suspects fleeing with gunshot injuries. The police made the announcement in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital, by Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola.

Odutola explained that the incident occurred on the evening of February 20, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., when operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit swiftly responded to a distress call and thwarted the attack along the Warewa axis of the Long Bridge. During the attack, several passengers were able to escape through the rear door, which the driver had skillfully and bravely opened.

Items recovered at the scene included a locally-made pistol with two cartridges, two daggers, ₦20,000 in cash, a Tecno Android phone, a solar power bank, and three USB lights, suspected to be stolen property.

The bodies of the four deceased kidnappers have been taken to the State Hospital Morgue in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for autopsy and further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the Command’s commitment to eliminating criminal activities in the region. He has directed the reinforcement of tactical operatives at key flashpoints, including Arepo, and increased routine patrols to enhance the security of both residents and commuters.

The police have also urged the public, especially medical professionals, to report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
