The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated an investigation and called for the prosecution of a female motorist who was captured in an online video physically assaulting one of its officers while he was on duty.
In the 1:25-minute video posted by the corps, the woman was seen punching an FRSC official after being arrested and brought to their office.
As the incident unfolded, some FRSC officials were heard advising the assaulted officer to endure, while one of the FRSC leaders, upon witnessing the scene, shouted, “You are beating my personnel in my office!” The woman was also heard shouting back at the FRSC boss, who demanded, “Release him now! Release his body!” The FRSC boss then instructed, “Deflate all the tyres.”
In a statement, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer at FRSC headquarters in Abuja, explained that the motorist had been arrested for violating seatbelt regulations.
The corps issued a stern warning to the public, emphasizing that any form of assault on FRSC personnel would no longer be tolerated.
