Fubara says Despite security concerns, “Rivers is Peaceful and Safe.”

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the state is peaceful and safe despite the recent security concern over the administration of local government areas.

The governor made this remark during a visit to Omuma Local Government Area where two security operatives were killed in the political crisis.

The governor was there to assess how the 14.6-kilometer Omodu-Eberi road project was coming along.

According to him, the state is not under siege contrary to perceptions formed from reports of protests and the police takeover of council secretariats.

The governor was escorted by Promise Reginald, the chairman of the Caretaker Committee, and met with enthusiastic citizens during the tour.

The governor’s guarantee follows Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s decision to maintain the police roadblock on local government secretariats in Rivers State in order to avert a collapse of law and order.

During a session with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers in Abuja, IGP Egbetokun issued the command while answering questions from the media.

He said that until a court of competent jurisdiction renders a decision regarding the local government issue in Rivers State, the police will remain in possession of the secretariats.
