Fuel price hike: Edo Govt suspends school resumption till further notice

The Edo State Government has announced an indefinite postponement of the resumption of all schools in the state due to the recent increase in fuel prices.

In a memo issued on Saturday and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ojo Akin-Longe, it was revealed that the resumption date, initially set for September 9, 2024, has been delayed until further notice. The decision was made in response to the heightened tension and difficulties faced by parents and guardians as a result of the fuel price hike.

The memo stated, “The Edo State Government hereby announces the postponement of the resumption of all public and private schools in Edo State, originally scheduled for Monday, 9th September 2024, until further notice. This measure has been taken due to the current challenges and the growing tension arising from the recent increase in fuel prices.”

The government has urged parents, guardians, and caregivers to remain vigilant and closely monitor the activities of their children and wards during this period of uncertainty and economic strain.
