Gabby Thomas will run a race in Kingston, Jamaica, to honor her Jamaican roots. She may even spend a vacation there after the Games.
Despite representing the United States overseas, Thomas has always been proud of her Caribbean background and has never hesitated to voice her feelings for her home nation. Jennifer Randall, an African-American, and Jamaican Desmond Thomas are her parents.
“I do want to visit Jamaica. They have a meet in Kingston this year, I will be there, my family is waiting. And yea, maybe after this Olympic year I’ll go on vacation there,” said Thomas in a post-race interview with Cydon Bowen, after winning the 300m event at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Bowen.
The Harvard graduate, who has her eyes set on upsetting the Jamaican duo of Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shericka Jackson at the Paris Olympic Games, will be gunning to have a healthy and successful season in her quest for Olympic glory.
Thomas is one of the USA’s biggest track stars, having won a medal at every global championship she has attended. She’s a Tokyo Olympics 200m bronze medallist and World Championships silver medallist.
