Former Barcelona and Manchester United teammate of Lionel Messi, as well as former Manchester United teammate of Ronaldo, Gerard Pique, gave insights into Messi’s thoughts during their Ballon d’Or-winning battle.
Pique claims that even though Messi and Ronaldo were fierce rivals, Messi was never “obsessed” with Ronaldo’s accomplishments.
Messi, who has won the coveted Ballon d’Or eight times to Ronaldo’s five, hasn’t let his rival’s accomplishments get in the way of his own performance.
Pique told talkSPORT: “He wasn’t that type of guy. He was very team-focused, although he was getting all the first page in all the newspapers and radios and TV. “
“He was very close with all of us and he was just focused on winning titles like the Champions League and these kinds of things because he was the best.”
“Then he was winning the Ballon d’Or but it wasn’t something that was a priority for him.”
Lionel Messi will be aiming to lead Argentina to glory at the Copa America this summer.
