President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany is set to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday for a two-day state visit, according to a statement from the German Embassy.
During his visit, President Steinmeier will meet with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alieu Omar Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission.
Steinmeier’s visit will also include a trip to Lagos, where he will engage with business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and meet notable figures from Nigeria’s culture and civil society, including Nike Okundaye and Prof. Wole Soyinka. The President will also explore the urban development of Lagos, addressing key environmental and social challenges faced by the city.
Accompanying Steinmeier will be a delegation of German business leaders, including CEOs and board members from top companies in IT, high-tech, and energy sectors. This highlights the growing interest of German businesses in investing in Nigeria, underscoring the strong political, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations.
The embassy described the visit as a significant gesture, signaling Nigeria’s importance as a partner to Germany in Africa.
