Global Leaders Praise Mark Carney’s Appointment as Canada’s New Prime Minister, Honor Trudeau’s Legacy

World leaders from the United Kingdom and France have joined the chorus of congratulations following Mark Carney’s appointment as Canada’s new Prime Minister, while also lauding the impactful leadership of outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Labour Party leader Keir Starmer took to social media to extend their well-wishes to Carney and express their gratitude to Trudeau for his nearly decade-long tenure.
Macron, who has maintained a close relationship with Trudeau, celebrated the enduring strength of Franco-Canadian relations under the outgoing leader.
He wrote on X, “Congratulations to the future Prime Minister of Canada, @MarkJCarney. In these challenging times, the bonds between France and Canada have never been stronger. A heartfelt thank you to my dear friend @JustinTrudeau for eight years of exceptional cooperation.”
Meanwhile, Starmer highlighted the importance of future collaboration between Canada and the UK. He shared, “Congratulations to @MarkJCarney on becoming Canada’s new Prime Minister. I look forward to working closely with him on global issues, particularly within the G7, and to strengthening the UK-Canada relationship. Best wishes to @JustinTrudeau as he steps down, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
China also expressed its congratulations to Carney following his leadership victory within Canada’s Liberal Party, which paves the way for his formal transition into the role of Prime Minister.
This shift in leadership follows Justin Trudeau’s announcement earlier this year that he would step down from his post due to waning public support, marking the end of a transformative period for Canadian politics.
