The Gombe State House of Assembly will today begin the screening of 17-commissioner-nominees submitted to them by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya five weeks ago.
The lawmakers are yet to screen the commissioner-nominees, about 38 days after the governor sent the names to the assembly.
According to a press statement signed by Speaker Abubakar Luggerewo, the 17 Commissioner-nominees, comprising two females and 15 males, would be screened between September 7 and 8, adding that it was because of the strike.
Yahaya had returned six of his first-term commissioners and 11 fresh others to the yet-to-be-screened list.
He said, “Following the strike action embarked upon by the joint trade unions, Gombe State House of Assembly suspended the screening exercise of the Commissioner nominees till Thursday 7 and Friday 8 September, 2023.”
The screening exercise was initially slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, without putting into consideration the strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Recall that the list was sent to the house on July 28 by the Secretary to the State Government Ibrahim Njodi, for approval.
