Gov Lawal Meets with Livestock Minister, Says Zamfara Ready for Ranching

Governor Dauda Lawal has assured the Ministry of Livestock Development that Zamfara State is prepared for ranching and has ample land available for such initiatives. On Thursday, he paid a courtesy visit to the ministry’s headquarters, where he met with Minister Idi Maiha.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, highlighted Zamfara’s significant role as an agrarian state, which aligns with the mission of the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development. The ministry, created in July 2024, is focused on reforming Nigeria’s livestock industry, promoting a secure environment, encouraging both local and foreign investment, and strengthening food security.

During the visit, Governor Lawal expressed his administration’s eagerness to collaborate with the ministry to unlock the full potential of Zamfara. “Honorable Minister, as you are aware, Zamfara is an agrarian state, and our motto is ‘Farming is our pride.’ We are here today to congratulate you on the timely establishment of the ministry. We also look forward to fostering a strong partnership between our state and the ministry.”

He further noted the need for rehabilitation of several earth dams in the state to better serve livestock and expressed the potential for new opportunities in expanding the state’s agricultural and livestock initiatives. He invited Minister Maiha and his team to visit Zamfara to evaluate the situation firsthand.

In response, Minister Maiha thanked Governor Lawal for the visit and expressed his appreciation for the state’s willingness to collaborate on livestock development initiatives.
