Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the upgrade of Amachara General Hospital to offer highest quality of health services, as well as for Abia Diagnostic Centre to offer all diagnostic services.
The state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday while intimating newsmen of the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting chaired by the state governor.
He added that the essence of the upgrade was to enable the healthcare facilities “offer expanded scope of high quality medicare in certain special areas including internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, surgical services, general brain and spine surgeries among others.”
The Commissioner added that the Governor who had also given approval for the release of funds for the project, also directed that the upgrade be done within 13 – 15 weeks.
He assured that Otti was desirous of converting Abia into the health tourism of Nigeria by upgrading facilities at the State hospitals.
The state Commissioner for Health, Enoch Uche, explained that the Amachara General Hospital and Abia Diagnostic Centre will be retrofitted and upgraded in the area of internal medicine, nephrology, cardiology, surgical services and general surgery including, brain and spine surgery, obstetrics, gynecology and eye health.
He explained that the state government has given approval for the hiring of “high calibre” specialists , adding that the upgrade of the two health institutions will be in both infrastructure and services
