Gov seeks military presence to tackle insecurity in Katsina

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has called for the establishment of a military base in the southern part of the state to address ongoing security challenges. The governor made this appeal during a visit from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the Government House in Katsina on Tuesday.

Governor Radda outlined the state government’s current security measures, including the creation of a local security initiative known as the Katsina Community Security Watch. He highlighted plans to expand these efforts by training additional community watch personnel to operate in 10 more local government areas, which will supplement the existing 1,466 personnel.

Radda also introduced a Community Development Programme aimed at involving local communities in enhancing state safety. This programme features a 25-member committee tasked with identifying areas of need and exposing criminal activities and their perpetrators.

In his address, General Musa explained that his visit to Katsina was part of a broader tour of North Western Nigeria to evaluate the security situation. He reassured that the military is dedicated to restoring peace and security in the region and emphasized the crucial role of citizen support in achieving these objectives.

The Chief of Defence Staff praised the Katsina Community Security Watch initiative, acknowledging its potential to significantly bolster security in the state. He noted that while security personnel are vital, they cannot be everywhere at once, making community involvement essential for effective security.

General Musa appealed to all citizens to cooperate in the efforts to restore peace not only in Katsina State but throughout the North West region.
