Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Reaffirms Focus on Governance, Dismisses Election Pressure

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reaffirmed his commitment to effective governance, rejecting any political pressure or speculation surrounding the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by, the Director General of Media and Publicity for the Kano Government House Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf emphasized that his primary concern is fulfilling his mandate in his current term rather than focusing on re-election.

Governor Yusuf expressed his dedication to delivering the benefits of democracy to the people of Kano, stating, “What I am worried about is not re-election. I am more concerned about delivering the dividends of democracy on the mandate given to me in this first tenure.” He further stressed that his performance during this term would be the key factor for the people of Kano to judge his leadership.

The Governor also addressed ongoing speculation regarding attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to influence the upcoming elections in the state, criticizing opposition figures for their role in attempting to stir political unrest. He reminded the public of the NNPP’s past victories in 2019 and 2023, despite the party’s lack of political incumbency at the time. “We won against them at a time when we had no political office not even a councillor,” he said, attributing the party’s success to divine providence.

Governor Yusuf took aim at the APC leadership in Kano, urging them to avoid using divisive language that could intimidate voters ahead of future elections. He added, “I am destined to be a Governor. It is my total belief and submission to the will of Allah that if He so wills, I will serve a second term. If not, I won’t. So why should I bother myself?”

Since the NNPP’s rise to power in 2023, the APC has faced considerable setbacks in Kano, losing key positions, including the governorship, two senatorial seats, 18 House of Representatives seats, and 26 State Assembly seats.

Governor Yusuf’s statement underscores his commitment to governance and his intention to remain focused on delivering for the people of Kano, irrespective of political maneuvering and speculation about the 2027 elections.
