Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reinforced his administration’s commitment to the security of lives and property by presenting 20 brand new Toyota Hilux trucks to security agencies in the state. This gesture, aimed at sustaining the progress achieved in security, especially during the Christmas season, reflects the governor’s focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of the people of Abia.
Speaking at the event in Umuahia on Monday, Governor Otti emphasized that security has been a top priority since his administration took office. He acknowledged the vital role played by security agencies in tackling criminality and maintaining peace within the state. The vehicles, purchased by the Abia government, are intended to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of these agencies in their operations.
Otti highlighted that when his administration assumed power, securing the state was identified as the foundation for achieving all other objectives. “We understood clearly that every other thing that we wanted to do would amount to nothing if security was compromised,” he stated. The governor reiterated that the presentation of the Hilux trucks is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring “seamless operations” for security personnel.
He also mentioned that Abia’s security architecture has been revamped and warned criminals that the state would no longer be a safe haven for lawbreakers. He urged security agencies to maintain professionalism in their duties, cautioning against misconduct such as extortion or mistreatment of citizens.
Brigadier General Olusola Diya, Commander of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, thanked the governor for the support and promised that all security agencies in Abia would work tirelessly to make the state a model of safety for others to follow. Similarly, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Akinsola Aderemi, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Comdr. MacDonald Ubah (rtd), expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts and stressed the importance of collaboration among security agencies to enhance the state’s security.
Governor Otti’s initiative aims to strengthen the fight against crime in Abia State, ensuring that security personnel are well-equipped and supported in their efforts to protect the citizens.
