Governor Obaseki Commends Edo Voters for Enthusiasm Amid Rain

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has praised the resilience of voters in the state, noting their strong turnout despite heavy rain on election day.

Arriving at his polling unit at Ward 4, Unit 19 at Emokpae Primary School around 11:50 am, Obaseki completed his accreditation and cast his vote by 11:57 am. He expressed admiration for the determination of the electorate, particularly young voters, who showed their commitment to participating in the democratic process.

“You can see that despite the weather, the turnout and enthusiasm of the electorate is high,” he stated. “The ballot box in my polling unit is full, clearly indicating strong interest in this election. This is a watershed moment for us in Edo State.”

Obaseki emphasized the significance of youth participation, noting, “Many young people are here to express themselves and fulfill their civic obligations.” He also expressed satisfaction with the election process at his polling unit, hoping for a peaceful collation and counting of results.

Regarding security, the governor appreciated the military presence, stating, “The military have done a good job and performed well.” He mentioned discussions with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who assured him of adequate security on the ground. However, he raised concerns about reports of individuals claiming to be police officers and attempting to make arrests at polling units.

“We are pleased with the deployment of our agents, and our situation room is open,” he concluded, expressing optimism for a smooth election process.
