Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has announced the launch of a free bus service aimed at providing accessible transportation for residents across the state.
This initiative, implemented through the State-owned Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), is part of the governor’s broader policy agenda encapsulated in his administration’s slogan: “A New Edo Has Risen.”
The free bus service will cover both intra-city routes within the Benin metropolis as well as intercity routes linking the three Senatorial districts of Edo State. This move is part of Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to improving the welfare of Edo people by reducing the financial burden of transportation and enhancing the overall quality of life.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, the initiative aims to alleviate transportation stress, making it easier for people to travel around the state without the added cost. The new bus services will operate throughout the Benin City area and extend to other parts of Edo State, including key towns and localities.
Residents of Edo Central will also benefit, with towns such as Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Irrua, Uromi, and others included in the routes. Similarly, the free service extends to Edo North, covering towns like Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, Fugar, and several other areas in the region.
The new initiative is expected to significantly improve mobility for citizens, making travel within the state more efficient and affordable. Governor Okpebholo’s administration continues to prioritize policies aimed at boosting the socio-economic well-being of Edo State residents.
