Governor Sanwo-Olu Unveils New Classroom Blocks in Lagos, Emphasizing Education as Key to Socioeconomic Growth

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday inaugurated newly constructed classroom blocks at Keme Balogun Senior and Junior Colleges in Ibeshe, Ikorodu, as part of a larger initiative to launch new educational facilities across the state. The move is aimed at enhancing the quality of education and improving school infrastructure statewide.

In addition to the Ibeshe schools, other recently rehabilitated and newly built classrooms are now available at several schools, including Awori Junior College in Ojo, Euba Junior High School in Mushin, Ipara Junior College in Majiyagbe, Mainland Junior Secondary School in Fadeyi, St. Luke Junior Secondary School in Bariga, State Junior High School in Ibereko, Badagry, and Thogli Community Grammar School in Badagry.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who had earlier inspected the ultra-modern classroom block at Ajegunle Junior High School in Kosofe Local Government Area, emphasized that education is a cornerstone of the state’s THEMES Plus agenda. He stated, “Education is the engine that drives economic growth, reduces inequality, and empowers individuals to break the cycle of poverty.”

He added that investing in schools directly contributes to the socioeconomic development of local communities, and the newly constructed and renovated facilities would serve as a catalyst for change. “These facilities will provide our children with the tools they need to compete in an increasingly globalized world,” Sanwo-Olu said. The new buildings include 18 classrooms, modern facilities such as a food canteen, Intro-tech block, and sports fields, creating an environment for students to thrive academically, socially, and physically.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also noted that these projects had created jobs, benefiting local workers during the construction phase and stimulating the local economy. He emphasized that the improved infrastructure would enhance the quality of education, increase student enrollment, and build a more educated and skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and economic development in Lagos.

The Chairman of the Special Committee on the Repair of Public Schools, Hakeem Smith, gave an overview of the project, noting that the poor condition of the schools had been brought to the governor’s attention, prompting immediate repair work.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, in his welcome address, highlighted that the simultaneous inauguration of 16 new classroom blocks across the state is a testament to the governor’s unwavering commitment to providing high-quality education for Lagosians.
