Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has signed an Executive Order for the creation of the Akwa Ibom State Labour and Industrial Committee. The signing took place on Thursday at the Government House in Uyo, during a brief ceremony where the Governor also inaugurated an eleven-member Labour Committee and a Bureau of Statistic Board for the state.
Governor Eno explained that the Executive Order was necessary to give the committee a strong foundation while the state government works on a legislative process to pass a law that will fully empower the Labour Committee at the state level.
The newly established Labour and Industrial Committee will be chaired by Rt. Hon. Nse Essien, with other members including Udo Kierian Akpan, Mmakim Antai, Nse Ntuen, Ekerette Ekoenyong, Sunday Etor Isokobo, Ubong Udo Uquang, Abraham Odion, and Uwemedimo Udoh. The Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour will serve as ex officio members.
Governor Eno emphasized that the establishment of the committee, backed by the Executive Order, is aimed at ensuring the proper coordination of labour and industrial activities in the state. He also affirmed that the state government would work towards sending a bill to the House of Assembly for the formal establishment of the committee into law.
The creation of this committee is a significant step towards improving labour relations and enhancing industrial development within the state.
