How To Win A Grammy – Recording Academy’s CEO
The Recording Academy’s CEO, Harvey Mason Jr, provides insight into the Grammy Award winning process.
Nigerian music lovers were very interested in the 66th Grammy Awards, which took place in Los Angeles on February 5, 2024, and were hoping that someone from Nigeria would bring home the award.
After the 66th Grammy Awards, disappointments ensued when Burna Boy, Davido, Asake & Olamide, and Ayra Starr failed to win any of their ten nominations combined.
According to Mason Jr, the Academy evaluates each song on its quality and it’s the opinions of the Academy members each year that determine the winners.
Mason Jr responded to concerns from the media regarding the Academy’s selection process, saying that the organization takes into account simply the quality of each song that is submitted.
The members of the Academy are made up of professionals working in music in the United States and it’s their votes that determine the winner of every category.
“It’s not the streams, not how many fans, not how many followers, but purely on the opinion of the membership in that particular year, that is how you win a Grammy,” Mason told Journalist.
He went on to say that music professionals vote for their peers rather than committees, journalists, or labels.
