I won’t surrender to blackmail – Fubara

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Rivers State, vowing not to succumb to what he termed “blatant blackmail” from any individual or group, regardless of their influence. His remarks came during the 64th Nigerian Independence Day Anniversary parade at the Government House Arcade in Port Harcourt.

In his speech, Fubara emphasized that his administration’s primary focus is the welfare and development of the state. He stated, “We will remain focused and rededicated to the interest of the nation, our dear Rivers State, and the cause of our people.” He expressed gratitude to citizens and supporters for their unwavering backing since he assumed office.

The governor’s declaration is significant given his ongoing political standoff with his predecessor and estranged political ally, Nyesom Wike. Fubara addressed the economic challenges facing the nation and called for support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to improve the country’s situation.

Fubara highlighted the vision of Nigeria’s founding fathers, aiming for a united and secure nation founded on democracy, justice, and equality. He urged citizens to remain hopeful and work together with the Nigerian Government to address pressing challenges such as corruption and nepotism.

He outlined key infrastructure projects that his administration is committed to completing, including the Port Harcourt Ring Road and the N225 billion Trans-Kalabari Road.

Fubara also emphasized the importance of education, detailing plans for the rehabilitation of schools, recruitment of teachers, and improvements in educational resources.

Governor Fubara reiterated his dedication to delivering the dividends of democracy and good governance, assuring citizens that his administration will not compromise on these commitments.
