A Magistrate Court in Ibadan has ordered the remand of Principal Hamzat and ex-Queen Naomi in connection with the stampede that claimed several lives at a school event. The tragic incident, which occurred earlier in December, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice from affected families and advocacy groups.
During the hearing, the prosecution presented evidence linking the defendants to gross negligence, which allegedly led to the overcrowding and subsequent stampede. Principal Hamzat, who was in charge of organizing the event, is accused of failing to implement adequate crowd control measures. Meanwhile, ex-Queen Naomi is said to have played a role in endorsing the event without ensuring safety protocols were adhered to.
The Magistrate, citing the severity of the charges and the public interest in ensuring justice, ordered that both defendants remain in custody until the next hearing. The case has drawn significant attention, with many calling for stricter regulations around large public gatherings, particularly those involving children.
