The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle as the new head of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS). Shogunle has also been tasked with leading the Elections Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation unit, as well as the Safe School Protection Squad.

In a statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police chief emphasized that these appointments are aimed at strengthening internal security and enhancing the police force’s ability to respond to violent crimes.

The statement also revealed that CSP Chima Ogarashi has been appointed as the new Force Marine Officer, where he will be responsible for improving security and tackling crime along the country’s inland waterways.

The statement described Shogunle as an experienced officer in operations and public relations, with certifications across various capacities. He will lead the SIS in addressing security challenges, in addition to overseeing the Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation unit and the Safe School Protection Squad.

Meanwhile, CSP Ogarashi, in his new role as Force Marine Officer, will leverage his expertise in maritime security and law enforcement to enhance safety on inland waterways.

These strategic appointments come at a critical time as the Force prepares to unveil 25 newly acquired gunboats, with plans to acquire additional maritime safety equipment to improve security operations on the nation’s waterways. This acquisition is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s proactive efforts to safeguard lives and property, as well as strengthen public confidence in maritime safety.

The Inspector General of Police assured the public of the Force’s continued dedication to addressing security threats and maintaining a safe environment for all citizens.
