The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive to all commands within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to implement an action plan aimed at reducing crime rates by 50% in 2025. He announced this goal at the opening of the 5th Annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The theme of the 2025 Conference and Retreat, titled “Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity Through Inclusive Policing,” aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for enhanced security and emphasizes the importance of an inclusive approach to policing. IGP Egbetokun stressed that the NPF’s commitment to creating a police force that is competent, intelligence-driven, and equipped to respond proactively to emerging threats is central to the plan.
Egbetokun highlighted the ongoing efforts of the police, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, in tackling issues such as banditry, kidnapping, and organized crime. He noted that the intensified operations are already yielding positive results, with the NPF making significant strides in combating these criminal activities.
The ambitious target set by IGP Egbetokun marks a renewed focus on reducing crime while fostering a more secure environment for Nigeria’s growth and prosperity.
