
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun On March 6, 2025, officially decorated six newly appointed Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) and one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in a ceremony that marks a significant milestone for the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly promoted officers bring a wealth of experience from various commands and departments within the force. The new DIGs include:
- DIG Sadiq Idiris Abubakar, former Commandant of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano
- DIG Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, former AIG of the Department of Information and Communication Technology at the Force Headquarters
- DIG Williams Adebowale, former Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos
- DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali, former AIG of FCID Annex, Enugu
- DIG Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, former AIG of Zone 14, Katsina
- DIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, former AIG of Zone 16, Yenagoa
Additionally, Kanayo Uzuegbu, the former Commissioner of Police for Enugu State Command, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
The announcement was made by Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Spokesman, who shared the news in a statement on Thursday. This promotion follows the retirement of six veteran DIGs on March 3, 2025, who had honorably served the force for 35 years.
During the ceremony, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the newly appointed officers, urging them to remain committed to the values of integrity, professionalism, and service in their leadership roles. He also highlighted the importance of inspiring confidence both within the police force and among the public.
In his remarks, the IGP expressed his belief in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the progress and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force, emphasizing that their leadership would be vital in the force’s continued evolution.
The newly promoted officers’ wealth of experience is expected to bolster the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order, while continuing to build trust within the communities they serve.
