IGP Orders Swift Action Against Boko Haram Attackers Who Killed Two Police Officers in Borno

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued an urgent directive for action against those responsible for the deadly attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State.

The attack, carried out by Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday, resulted in the deaths of two police officers and left another officer in critical condition.

The incident, which took place around 12:10 AM, saw the terrorists exchange gunfire with officers stationed at the police facility. The assault was eventually thwarted with the assistance of the civilian joint taskforce, stationed nearby, who helped repel the attackers.

In a statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, the two officers who lost their lives were identified as Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat. Both officers made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while defending the station against the armed assailants.

Condemning the attack in the strongest terms, IGP Egbetokun ordered an immediate and thorough investigation to track down and apprehend the attackers. He emphasized that “any cop-killers will not go unpunished,” vowing that those responsible for this heinous act will face the full force of the law.

Egbetokun also extended his deepest condolences to the families of the fallen officers, affirming that their bravery and sacrifice would not be forgotten. He further assured the families that all entitlements and benefits for the deceased officers would be processed and paid without delay.

In response to the attack, the IGP directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to mobilize resources and personnel to ensure that the perpetrators are found and brought to justice. AIG Onwuemelie has been tasked with collaborating with other security agencies to expedite the investigation and prevent further security breaches.

As the investigation unfolds, IGP Egbetokun reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and vowed to hold accountable anyone who disrupts the peace and security of the nation.
