I’ll correct prolonged neglect of Niger-Delta – Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which would address years of neglect in the Niger Delta area.
Tinubu made this commitment during the Niger Delta Stakeholders’ Summit 2024 in Port Harcourt.
The President, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said the summit, themed “Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development of the Niger Delta Region,” was an important turning point.
“This government gives renewed optimism and prosperity, and I feel it is the time we have been waiting for.
“It is our time to shine.” Unity is required to develop long-term solutions. Unity among the people of the Niger Delta and the entire country is not an option, but a need. We can conquer the challenges ahead of us thanks to our united vision.
“The President is deeply committed to the development of the Niger Delta. The East-West Road will be a priority. The National Assembly, fully represented here today, will do everything in its power to ensure the completion of this crucial road.
“Additionally, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project will not only commence from Lagos but will also start simultaneously from the Niger Delta, ensuring both ends meet to complete the project,” he said.
According to him, the Niger Delta could support itself with its agricultural resources, notably rice cultivation and fish farming, and that focusing on rice production would not only fulfill the region’s own requirements but also contribute to the nation’s food security.
