Imo LG Poll: PDP fixes date for Ward Congress

Ahead of the Local Government Election in Imo State scheduled for September 21, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has set September 27 to conduct its ward congress in the state.

The Congress Planning Committee, chaired by Mike Ahumibe and secretaryed by Amby Umeh, was also inaugurated by the party.

The party’s flagbearer in the 2023 gubernatorial race and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, spoke to party faithful and encouraged them to make sacrifices by making sure that harmony and peace rule supreme during local government congresses.

Anyanwu further warned against division, misunderstanding and breakdown of law and order, appealing to all aspirants and stakeholders in the 305 electoral wards in the state to ensure decorum before, during and after the exercise.

He said that the exercise is a chance to patch things up in order to further and promote the party’s philosophy in the state, not a stage for showing off one’s money, power, or desperation.

Anyanwu commended the leadership of the Caretaker Committee chaired by Chidi Dike for bringing members together, maintaining that they shunned personal interest in the discharge of their duties.

Anyanwu added that the only way the party can achieve more political success is by allowing the people at the grassroot to select or elect the most popular candidate they will trust and work with.

He further advised members of the party to be part and parcel of what is happening in their respective wards, and do everything possible to promote unity, and propagate the good programmes of the party in the state.

Anyanwu announced the party’s intention to allow up to six women at the ward levels during the committee’s inaugural meeting.

He insisted, however, that the most dynamic males may be taken into consideration in the event that no qualified women are available to fill the roles.
