Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has been provided with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) report of voter accreditation for the recent Governorship elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Announcing this on his X social media handle, the former Corp Marshall and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) said the compliance was achieved through a Freedom of Information request
“Today marks a significant milestone in our pursuit of transparent and accountable governance. With gratitude and sense of national pride I announce that the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has complied with my Freedom of Information request, providing the BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System) report of voter accreditation for the recent Governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states”.
Chidoka also said that INEC ‘s response is a testament that something significant can be achieved through persistent effort and courage and the instrumentality of the law .
“This unprecedented compliance by INEC is a testament to what can be achieved through persistent efforts and the courage to venture into uncharted territories. I extend my sincere thanks to INEC for their commitment to respecting our laws and upholding the principles of transparency and accountability.
This act signifies a hopeful beginning in our collective effort to ensure that government agencies are not just answerable to the law but also to the people they serve.
I am pleased to inform Nigerians that the BVAS report was received in hard copy along with a certificate complying with section 84 of the Evidence Act (2011)”
He also announced that he has commenced work on digitizing and visualising the report in order to make the information accessible and comprehensible to the general public .
Chidoka also believes the step taken by him will entrench democratic tenets in Nigeria and by extension Africa
