Bendel Insurance FC of Benin’s coach, Greg Ikhenoba, emphasized that his team will not get complacent as they continue their journey in this year’s President Federation Cup, following their dominant 5-0 win over NLO side Dandidi Babes of Jigawa in the round of 64 at Lafia City Stadium in Nasarawa State on Wednesday.
The 2023 winners secured their place in the round of 32 with a commanding performance. Uche Collins opened the scoring in the 8th minute, followed by a 13th-minute goal from captain Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi. Michael Enaruna then made it 3-0 just before halftime.
Insurance continued their dominance in the second half, with substitute Chinedu Onyejekwe heading home the fourth goal in the 57th minute, although he was forced to leave the field after sustaining a head injury. Oritseweyinmi wrapped up the victory with his second goal in the 61st minute.
In his post-match interview, Ikhenoba praised his team’s approach to the game, highlighting their discipline and focus. “They gave me exactly what I wanted from them. No complacency, no dull moments. It was the best way to face any team you’re unfamiliar with, especially those tagged as underdogs,” he said.
“I’m pleased with the outcome. I keep saying there are no pushovers in football anymore. The FA Cup is filled with surprises and upsets, so I’m happy my boys stayed focused on their responsibilities. Now, our attention shifts to the league.”
Currently sitting 9th in the NPFL standings, Bendel Insurance will host Sunshine Stars on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
