IPOB rejects alleged blackmail over Monday sit-at-home, calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) has stated that it can no longer be held responsible for the ongoing Monday weekly sit-at-home, as it claims the entire nation and the world now know that it is not behind the continued observance of the protest by Ndigbo.

IPoB urged the Federal Government to release its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, if it wishes to see an end to the sit-at-home, stating that the protest has now become a statement by Ndigbo against Kanu’s unlawful and unjust detention, with the group accusing the government of using Kanu as a pawn against the Igbo people.

In a statement issued by IPoB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, titled “Do Not Blackmail IPoB with Monday Weekly Sit-at-Home, Instead Free Nnamdi Kanu,” the group emphasized that the sit-at-home is no longer an IPoB initiative, but rather a protest by Ndigbo against Kanu’s continued illegal detention.

The statement further asserted that Nigeria has politically, socially, and economically abandoned the Igbo people, and in turn, Ndigbo have rejected Nigeria in spirit and soul.

IPoB stated that Nigeria no longer exists for them, but only for a time, and called on the Nigerian government, military, and Southeast governors and politicians to focus on addressing the core issue driving the Monday sit-at-home—the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu and a demand for a Biafra referendum.
