Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has authorized the immediate release of N548 million to the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Endwell Scheme, a fund that was previously withheld by the former administration. This move has effectively resolved the long-standing industrial dispute between the NUT and the Kaduna State Government.
Mubarak Mohammed, the acting Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KASUBEB), made the announcement during a press conference in Kaduna. He explained that the resolution followed a series of negotiations between the NUT and the state government.
Looking ahead, Mohammed shared that the NUT Endwell Scheme will undergo structural reforms to enhance efficiency and accountability. He said, “I am pleased to announce that Governor Uba Sani has successfully resolved the long-standing dispute regarding the NUT Endwell Fund. This fund consists of statutory salary deductions from teachers, designed to support them during their service and retirement.”
Under the new agreement, all legal actions related to the NUT Endwell Fund will be dropped, and the N548 million will be handed over to the NUT to independently manage the fund.
Mohammed also highlighted that Governor Uba Sani’s administration has been deeply committed to improving education and the welfare of teachers since taking office in May 2023. “The Governor has shown exceptional dedication to enhancing access to quality education, increasing student enrollment and retention, and improving learning conditions in primary and secondary schools,” he said.
The resolution of the dispute reflects the Governor’s strong leadership, commitment to fairness, and dedication to the overall development of Kaduna State.
In response, Kaduna State NUT Chairman Ibrahim Dalhatu expressed gratitude for the release of the N548 million, stating that it would significantly improve the welfare of teachers in the state. He thanked Governor Uba Sani for resolving the issue.
