Kano Court Adjourns Emirate Tussle Hearing to July 4

A Kano State High Court has adjourned the ongoing hearing of the Emirate tussle between Aminu Bayero and Lamido Sanusi to July 4. This decision was made to allow the court to entertain all applications and originating motions in the case.

The court case, which has been ongoing since May 27, involves the Attorney General, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the Kano State House of Assembly seeking an interim injunction. They aim to restrain the 15th Emir, Aminu Bayero, along with four other dethroned emirs, from parading themselves as emirs.

During the court session, counsel for the applicants informed the court that they were served with five legal processes by the first respondent on July 1 at around 7:00 PM. The counsel mentioned that they had filed their responses and requested a 30-minute recess to serve the respondent.

However, Bayero’s counsel opposed this request for a 30-minute stand-down and instead sought an adjournment to provide adequate time to respond to the applications.

Presiding Judge, Justice Amina Adamu, granted the request for an adjournment and scheduled the hearing of all pending applications and originating motions for July 4.

The adjournment aims to ensure that both parties have sufficient time to prepare their cases and respond to all legal processes adequately. This legal battle continues to attract significant attention, given the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the implications for the Kano Emirate.
