Kano Emirate Tussle: Traditional flag hoisted at Nasarawa mini palace

The traditional and official flag has been hoisted at the Nassarawa mini palace at 6am on Thursday as the battle for the Kano Emirate stool continues.

This move reaffirms the authority of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, who currently occupies the palace.

The Kano Emirate dispute continues to see both Aminu Ado Bayero and the reinstated 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II laying claim to the throne.

Meanwhile, A Kano State High Court has adjourned a case filed by the State Government to restrain the deposed Emir of  Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four other emirs from parading themselves as emirs.

The presiding Judge, Justice Liman of the Federal High Court had refused the application to declare the amended Kano Emirate law null and void, he overturned all the actions taken by Governor Abba Yusuf after the controversial law was amended by the Kano State House of Assembly on May 23, 2024.

Justice Liman faulted the governor’s assent to the bill and the presentation of an appointment letter to Emir Sanusi on May 24, 2024, despite an order of the court directing all parties to maintain the status quo.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, both emirs occupy their respective palaces and perform all traditional and royal rites.
